Artistry in the Ordinary
Historic art workshop at Dill's Tavern during the Dillsburg Farmers Market.
This nine-week series celebrates how colonial settlers transformed everyday tasks into beautiful art forms. From May through early July, the Dillsburg Farmers Market hosts rotating demonstrations showcasing traditional crafts like wheelwrighting, tinsmithing, pottery, quilting, and blacksmithing. Each week features different activities—some weeks you might watch powder horns being made or see tomahawk throwing, while others highlight pretzel baking, colonial games, or decorative painting techniques. The July 4th date marks the final week, featuring wheelwright demonstrations and 18th-century gun displays.
All events are completely free and require no registration—just show up whenever works for your family's schedule. This is a wonderful opportunity for kids to see hands-on history come alive and understand how creativity flourished even when people were focused on survival. Whether your family is interested in crafts, history, or simply watching skilled artisans at work, there's something engaging happening each week.
