Butterfly Release Experience

Butterfly Release Experience

Release beautiful butterflies at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.

Your family can participate in a special behind-the-scenes moment at the Butterfly Bungalow where you'll help release newly emerged butterflies into the exhibit. During this intimate experience, you'll sit surrounded by hundreds of free-flying butterflies and carefully open protective envelopes to watch each butterfly experience its first moments in its new home. Every release is different—some butterflies take flight immediately while others need time to stretch their wings and adjust, making it a truly unique experience each time. This small-group event is limited to just 10 participants, which means the Bungalow closes to the general public so everyone can focus on the magic happening around them. The actual release typically takes 15–20 minutes, though organizers have reserved up to 30 minutes total to let you savor the experience without rushing. Plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early so the group can start on time. The cost is $10 per person, in addition to garden admission or a membership. This event runs weekly on Wednesdays.
