Dinosaur Fossil, Shark Tooth and Seashell Hunting for Kids

Dinosaur Fossil, Shark Tooth and Seashell Hunting for Kids

Interactive workshop teaching kids to hunt and identify dinosaur fossils, shark teeth, and seashells.

Your child will spend an hour with Dr. Ashley Oliphant, an expert in fossils and shells, learning how and where to search for treasures along the coast. The workshop begins with a presentation featuring shark, whale, and dinosaur fossils alongside a variety of seashells. Kids will discover how fossils form over time and learn about being a responsible beachcomber—understanding how to enjoy nature while protecting it. The session wraps up with a hands-on fossil dig where children get to unearth and keep their own finds. This program is designed for children ages 5–11 and requires an adult to accompany them. After the dig, Dr. Oliphant will be available to sign copies of her book "Shark Tooth Hunting on the Carolina Coast" and answer questions. She'll also have a small fossil shop on-site featuring affordable specimens from across the country. Registration is required and begins July 2; you can sign up online or call 981-5888. Space is limited to 30 participants.
