Dinosaur Fossil, Shark Tooth and Seashell Hunting for Kids
Dinosaur Fossil, Shark Tooth and Seashell Hunting for Kids at 21 East Liberty St.
Your child will spend an hour learning from Dr. Ashley Oliphant, an expert in shark teeth and seashells, discovering how to search for fossils and identify what you find. The workshop includes a fascinating show-and-tell featuring shark, whale, and dinosaur fossils plus a variety of seashells. Kids will learn how fossils form and what it means to be a respectful beachcomber who looks out for wildlife and the environment. The highlight is a hands-on 10-minute fossil dig where children get to keep any seashells and shark teeth they uncover.
This program is designed for children ages 5 through 11, and each child must be accompanied by an adult. After the dig, Dr. Oliphant will sign copies of her book "Shark Tooth Hunting on the Carolina Coast" and answer questions from the group. She'll also have a pop-up fossil shop on hand with affordable fossils available for purchase. Registration is required and opens July 2 by calling the library or registering online. Space is limited to 25 participants.
