Dinosaur Fossil, Shark Tooth and Seashell Hunting for Kids

Dinosaur Fossil, Shark Tooth and Seashell Hunting for Kids

Expert-led fossil and shark-tooth hunting workshop for kids.

Expert paleontologist Dr. Ashley Oliphant leads this hands-on workshop designed for young fossil and shell enthusiasts. Kids will explore a fascinating collection of dinosaur, shark, and whale fossils, plus shells from many different species. The program covers hunting techniques, the best locations to search, and how to identify what you've found. You'll also learn the science behind how fossils form and discover what responsible beachcombing looks like—protecting wildlife while enjoying nature's treasures. The workshop wraps up with a brief fossil dig where children keep their own discoveries. Afterward, Dr. Oliphant sticks around to sign copies of her book "Shark Tooth Hunting on the Carolina Coast," answer questions, and open her pop-up shop featuring affordable fossils from across the country. This program is designed for ages 6–11, and each child must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and limited to 20 participants; contact the library to check availability.
