Main Character Energy

Book club for 9–12 year-olds exploring stories with fun activities & discussions.

Main Character Energy is a book club designed for kids ages 9–12 who love a good story and want to build their confidence along the way. Each session combines reading discussions with engaging activities that celebrate what makes each young reader special. This month's selection is *Off the Map* by Meika Hashimoto, an adventure novel about two former best friends, Amos and Marlo, who find themselves lost together in the Alaskan wilderness after a family canoe trip goes wrong. The story explores friendship, trust, and growing up with the kind of heart and outdoor excitement that appeals to fans of classics like *Hatchet*. Sessions meet monthly and run for one hour. Spots are limited to 8 participants, so registration is required ahead of time. Parents should note that while the program takes place in the Youth Services Program Room at the Statesville Library, it's conducted as an online event—the meeting link will be sent via email after you register. If you'd like more details, Katie Lipshultz, the Library Program Specialist, is happy to help at 704-878-3090 ext. 3097 or by email.
