Morbidly Curious Book Club

Morbidly Curious Book Club at Statesville Library Meeting Room

Do you enjoy learning about fascinating—and sometimes darker—aspects of history and science? This nonfiction book club gathers monthly to explore intriguing topics like death, disease outbreaks, cults, witches, and more through carefully selected reads. Part of a global community with over 16,000 members, this local group meets to discuss each month's selection in a relaxed, conversational setting. This July's featured book is *Madness: Race and Insanity in a Jim Crow Asylum* by Antonia Hylton, which traces the history of a segregated hospital in Maryland while centering the experiences of Black patients often left out of historical records. The group meets on the fourth Thursday of each month for an hour-long discussion led by Patricia Brown. Copies of the monthly book selection are available at the Statesville Library front desk. This program is for adults 18 and older. Registration is required to attend, and spots are limited. To sign up or learn more, contact the library's program specialist at 704-878-3090, ext. 8801, or reach out via email.
