Open Play at the Nixon Park Nature Area
Open play time at Nixon Park Nature Area.
Kids can explore the outdoors freely during regular park hours at Nixon Park's nature area. The highlight is the Exploration Forest stream and muddy banks, where children can use provided exploration tools—buckets filled with sifters, magnifying glasses, nets, and basic kitchen supplies—to investigate aquatic life and habitats. There's no cost to participate, making it an affordable outdoor adventure for families.
To make the most of your visit, dress kids in water shoes and bring a towel, since hands-on exploration near the water is the main draw. You can borrow exploration supplies at the nature center's front desk during its regular hours. If you're planning to bring a group of 10 or more children, registration is required—call (717) 428-1961 x1 or email NixonCountyPark@YorkCountyPA.gov with your group size, children's ages, and contact information.
