Open Play at the Nixon Park Nature Area

Kids can explore and play freely at the Nixon Park Nature Area during regular park hours. The nature center's front desk loans out buckets filled with exploration tools—sifters, magnifying glasses, nets, and basic kitchen supplies—perfect for investigating the Exploration Forest stream and muddy banks. This is a wonderful way for children to get hands-on with nature and discover what lives in and around the water. Remember to pack water shoes and bring a towel, as kids will likely get wet! This activity is completely free and welcomes families of all sizes. If you're planning to bring a group of 10 or more children, registration is required. Just call (717) 428-1961 x1 or email NixonCountyPark@YorkCountyPA.gov with your group's details: your name, number of participants, children's ages, and a contact number. It's a casual, unstructured way for kids to enjoy outdoor play and nature exploration.
