Open Play at the Nixon Park Nature Area

Kids can explore and play freely at Nixon Park's nature area during regular park hours. The nature center offers exploration kits to borrow from the front desk—buckets filled with tools like sifters, magnifying glasses, nets, and basic supplies designed for hands-on discovery. These are perfect for investigating the Exploration Forest stream and muddy banks, so be prepared for water play and bring water shoes and a towel to stay comfortable. This outdoor activity is completely free and welcomes families of all sizes. If you're planning to visit with a group of 10 or more children, registration is required ahead of time. You can register by calling (717) 428-1961 x1 or emailing NixonCountyPark@YorkCountyPA.gov—just let them know your group size, the children's ages, and contact information.
