Open Play at the Nixon Park Nature Area

Kids can enjoy free, unstructured playtime at Nixon Park's Nature Area during regular park hours. The nature center's front desk loans out buckets filled with exploration tools—sifters, magnifying glasses, nets, and other supplies—perfect for investigating the Exploration Forest stream and muddy banks. This is a wonderful way for children to get hands-on with nature and discover what lives in and around the water. Families should come prepared with water shoes and a towel since kids will likely get wet while exploring. This activity welcomes all ages and is completely free to attend. If you're planning to bring a group of 10 or more children, registration is required—just call (717) 428-1961 x1 or email NixonCountyPark@YorkCountyPA.gov with your group size, the children's ages, and a contact number.
