Open Play at the Nixon Park Nature Area

Kids can explore the Exploration Forest stream and muddy banks at Nixon Park's daily open play sessions. The nature center provides buckets filled with useful tools—sifters, magnifying glasses, nets, and basic kitchen supplies—available to borrow at the front desk during regular nature center hours. This is a wonderful way for children to discover local wildlife and natural features while getting hands-on with their surroundings. This free activity works well for families with children of all ages who enjoy outdoor exploration and don't mind getting wet and muddy. Make sure your kids wear water shoes and bring a towel to change into afterward. If you're planning to bring a group of 10 or more children, you'll need to register ahead of time by calling (717) 428-1961 ext. 1 or emailing NixonCountyPark@YorkCountyPA.gov. When you register, have ready your name, the number of participants, children's ages, and a contact number.
