The Art of Reading: “The Warmth of Other Suns”

Join a guided tour exploring Isabel Wilkerson's powerful book about the Great Migration, when six million Black Southerners relocated north and west in search of opportunity and freedom. This program uses the museum's galleries—featuring American Art, Modern + Contemporary works, and Craft + Design pieces—to reveal deeper connections between the artwork and themes of migration, resilience, and the pursuit of a better life. The tour is included with general museum admission, making it an accessible way to engage with both literature and visual art together. If you or anyone in your family needs accessibility accommodations, the museum's Volunteer Internship and ADA Coordinator can help—just reach out ahead of time. This event works well for older kids and teens who are ready to explore meaningful historical topics through art and discussion.
