The Art of Reading: “The Warmth of Other Suns”

Join a guided tour exploring Isabel Wilkerson's powerful book about the Great Migration, when millions of Black Americans moved from the South seeking new opportunities and freedom. This program uses the museum's galleries—featuring American Art, Modern + Contemporary works, and Craft + Design pieces—to help visitors understand the themes of migration, resilience, and the search for better lives through visual storytelling. This event works well for teens and adults interested in history, literature, and how art reflects real human experiences. The tour lasts about 90 minutes and connects what you'll see on the walls to the broader stories explored in Wilkerson's book. If you need accessibility accommodations, the museum is happy to help—just reach out to their ADA Coordinator at the contact information listed.
