The Art of Reading: “You Dreamed of Empires”

Join a guided tour through the Ancient American Galleries at the Mint Museum Randolph as you explore Álvaro Enrigue's imaginative retelling of the 1519 encounter between Spanish conquistadors and the Aztec Empire. This literary event flips the historical narrative on its head, imagining how indigenous intelligence and unexpected forces might have reshaped this pivotal moment. The tour connects the story's themes to actual artworks in the museum's collection, giving you a fresh perspective on these important pieces and the cultures they represent. This hour-and-a-half program is included with your general museum admission, making it an accessible cultural experience for families interested in history, literature, and art. If you need accessibility accommodations or services, the museum staff is ready to help—just reach out to their Volunteer Internship and ADA Coordinator beforehand. It's a thoughtful way to engage older children and adults with both storytelling and museum exploration.
